The Existence of Freedom in America... Believe It? Or Not?
"O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" Even our national anthem says freedom is a part of what it takes to be American. According to former President George W Bush, he stated " defend our freedom... bring freedom to others." If freedom is so important in the lives of Americans, then why wasn't it given to them in the past? A large event that paints this controversy nicely was the practice of slavery since the 18 th and 19 th centuries. In former President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, he invoked a new outlook in abolishing slavery. “A nation conceived in liberty, but should have a new birth of freedom." His fight for providing freedom for African American slaves should not have even taken place if the American constitution says, " hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursui...
